SriLankan Airline’s failure to provide the new uniform to all its crew members has led to in flight crew being dressed in two different colours – blue and green — embarrassing the national carrier, SriLankan Airlines sources said. The airline which introduced the new uniform a few months ago, has failed to provide the full quantity of uniforms to all its crew members.

“We have been traveling all over the world and this is the first time we have come across in-flight crew in two different coloured uniforms. It is the custom for all of us to wear the same uniform but since the new regulations came into operation last week those who did not get the new uniforms were asked to continue wearing their old uniforms — once again ‘a first’ among reputed airlines,” an angry stewardess said.Asked why the airline has failed to provide the new uniforms to all its crew members on time, Head of Service Delivery, Milinda Ratnayake said that it was due to a logistical problem.

“There are around 1000 crew members and we are not in a position to give all of them their uniforms at once. The jackets, underskirts, handbags, shoes have to be ordered from India and China and that is the reason for the delay.

In addition we cannot get the measurements and the fit on all at once as the crew members work on a rotation basis and technically it is not practical,” he said.
