UNP M P and media spokesman Gayantha Karunatileke speaking to the media at the UNP media unit said the measures taken for the re structuring of the party is proceeding smoothly and systematically. , contrary to views expressed that it was a dilatory tactic. . The six member Committee appointed under the chairmanship of the UNP M P Joseph Michael Perera had prepared its report on time . At the Executive and Parliamentary group members’ meeting , the proposals were discussed , and now headway is being made .

Delays , if any which have arisen is because of the unexpected response received from all sections of the party and various quarters. As suggestions and proposals are flooding in , the party is having meetings on 31st  May , 1st , 2nd and 3rd June to expeditiously consider these proposals while also inviting all groups , including the Layers association , the professional associations , Jathika Youvun peramuna, the Lakvanitha peramuna , the District Managers , the Provincial Council members, the Unions  and all others of the UNP to make their contributions in the re organization program , he pointed out.

The expected changes are so revolutionary that even appointment of members to the Executive Committee are to be made not by an individual , he added.

The UNP is inspired by the tremendous interest shown by every citizen in the country in these prospective changes. They have shown renewed vigor and enthusiasm towards making UNP the present  most powerful opposition  , and most people friendly  party which had always solved country’s problems most successfully whenever it had ruled , to regain its former glory and become victorious, he observed.

It is the general consensus that ,when the Govt. is in a total disarray and prolonging its life on a profusion of lies without any answers to the burning problems in the country , it is most opportune the UNP is engaged in this re organization , he asserted.

Karunatileke assured that at the UNP convention to be held in July / August , the re structuring proposals are expected to be ready for ratification . Indeed , the UNP convention date has been advanced  from December when it is usually held  , is to expeditiously finalize this program. The UNP is compelled  to act fast because the entire nation wants  UNP to regain power as early as possible , he emphasized.
