Fedrica Janz Apologizes To SC

Sunday Leader’ editor Frederica Janz had to offer an unconditional apology to the Judiciary regarding an incident in which she had insulted Supreme Court Judge Shirani Bandaranayake.

Frederica Janz was accused of insulting Ms. Shirani Bandaranayake in an article she published in ‘Sunday Leader’ on the 28th February. The counsel representing Frederica Janz said his client was willing to apologize unconditionally for the error she had made. She had realized the seriousness of her folly only later and she regretted her action said the counselors representing the editor.

The Judiciary accepting the apology directed the editor to correct the report and publish the correct report on the first page of ‘Sunday Leader’ and to send a copy of the corrected version to the Supreme Court. The case was heard by a five member bench of judges including Chief Justice Asoka N. Silva.

Frederica Janz had also published a defamatory article on Gen. Sarath Fonseka and when objections were raised on behalf of Gen. Fonseka Frederica Janz said she could produce the recording of the interview with Gen. Fonseka. However, she could never produce the relevant recording. It was reported that she published the relevant report on encouragement from top government men.
