All Have Muddled Up ‘White Flag’ Episode – General
Everyone is confused regarding the ‘white flag’ episode and there was no such incident says Parliamentarian and Leader of DNA Gen. Sarath Fonseka.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Parliament today (6th) Gen. Fonseka said, “If there are any complaints regarding war crimes those interested in that need not use me. I will divulge everything I know. It is my duty. I’ll do it not only as a Member of Parliament but as a responsible citizen. I’m prepared to punish those who have committed crimes. However, we have no right to tell everything we know. As journalists you are unable to say everything you know. If you do that it would be the last thing you would have uttered. Even in the past I have punished those army officers who have done wrong. My belief is that all those who commit crimes should be punished whatever their positions are.
There is talk going round that I would have to go before court regarding the ‘while flag’ episode. However, I have not received any orders to go before the Court. This episode came to life with an article by Frederica Janz. We sent a letter of demand against this journalist. We couldn’t follow up due to busy programme of the election campaign. However, we hope to continue with the process in the future.
There hasn’t been any incident where people carrying white flags had been shot down. Former Foreign Secretary Palithe Kohona had made a statement regarding this then. Now everyone has muddled up everything. I said there was no such incident. It was Mr. Kohona who said there had been such an incident. May be they are thinking that Palithe Kohona was the commanding officer and I was the foreign secretary.”
